Vale Adelaide Comics and Books 2003 - 2018

And an era ends.

If you clicked on a bookmark for Adelaide Comics and Books today, then you're probably puzzled to find yourself on this blog. Allow me to explain why all your bookmarks now don't work.

I started the original Adelaide Comics and Books web-site back in 2003 with an interview with the late, and great, Gene Colan. In the frantic six years that it was active, I interviewed dozens of people and wrote many articles, and also allowed others free reign over the site, to publish anything and everything they wanted to. I have made many, many fine friends over the life of the site, but the reality is the site was last updated in late 2009. The rise of blogging and sites such as Facebook, Twitter and other social media have pretty much made web-sites redundant now. People can instantly connect with others and talk to them, you really don't need a web-site like Adelaide Comics was to get information. It's all out there and blogs, such as this, are adaptable and easier to maintain than a clunky site.

And I'll be perfectly honest here, I never thought that the site would still be there after all this time. To that end I'd like to thank everyone who helped me along the way, with editing, proofreading, being interviewed, contributing to stories and everyone who visited the site for whatever reason. I'd like to think that, in some small way, I helped put Adelaide on the map for comic books worldwide, not that anyone will ever admit it.

It is now time to retire the site, after 15 years, so, as of today, the site will be no more. The URL will still work, and it will take people to this blog, which, to be honest, has taken over where the site left off. All of the content from the Adelaide Comics site has been removed. At some point in the coming year or so, when time permits, I'll wade through it all and post some of the relevant articles and interviews here, updating them as I go along.

But, for now, it's time for it all to vanish into cyberspace, existing only on internet archive pages.  Part of me is highly amused as now that the site has been totally removed, and the original www.adelaidecomicsandbooks.com link points to here, there's quite a few Wikipedia pages and images all over the internet that have now dead links.

As it should be.

Goodbye, fair site, you served the world, and me, well. Time to rest.
